Flags of Our Fathers

The last book I read was Flags of Our Fathers written by James Bradley. It was published in May 2001. I decided to read this book because last year in history class I did a research project on Iwo Jima. Also I love history and reading about true life stories that have happened. Another reason why I decided to pick up this book is because a friend of mine is a Marine and recommend it to me. This story is a journey of the six men and there courage and honor they displayed.

Flags of Our Fathers is a true story about six Marines and there battle of Iwo Jima and the historical picture of the raising of the American Flag. This book retells day by day of the battle and how they had to run through gun fire and bombs on a beach where they were in the open. These six men then managed to get to the highest peak, and climbed through landscape of h… itself, they raised the flag. This heroic story gives almost every detail of what happened through this battle, and an epic point of view from a generation of war. This book shows the difference between truth and myth. I would recommend this book to everyone, its definitely a story that goes down in history. I am not a picky person and I am interested in any kind of novels.

  1. Hey Emily! I was reading your summary about Flags of Our Father and it sounds like a really good novel to read. You did a nice job on giving the plot behind the story but I was wondering if I could have some imformation about the epic point of the view from a generation of war and some differences between the truth and myth. Some books I would recommend you to read about wars would be All Quiet on the Western Front and Shindler's List. Some random books I would recommend you to read would be The Shack and A Walk to Remember.

  2. Flags of Our Fathers sounds like a really good book. I have heard from a few people that it was an excellent read, but your summary makes me want to read it even more now. I read that you like true life stories, and a book that i would recommend to you that is a true story is Between a Rock and a Hard Place by Aron Ralston. It is deffinately one of my favorite books so i would highly recommend it.

  3. no problem Emily, and yes the ending had a very big twist to it. I would be happy to give you more information on it any time, i could even lend you the book! I was actually going to read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo for the independant reading project but unfortunately it isn't by an american author, my mom read it and she said it was really good, and she is now reading the second book of the series.
